Weird Situation

Soooo facebook has once again brought turmoil to my life.

Just to warn you, this is a looooooonnnnnngggg story.

Two weeks ago a guy I went to highschool with sent me a friend request via facebook. He is someone I was in lots of classes with, but did not socialize with outside of class. I recognized his name and could picture his face....the point is, I felt like it was reasonable to accept his friend request.

A day later, he sent me an email asking me about graduate school. He was interested because he was looking at make a career change....This seemed very normal to me.

Then he asked if he could ask some more questions....I figured they would be about graduate school so I said "sure!"

They were not about graduate school, he didn't really even ask me anything. He rambled about he mistreated my best friend in highschool and how he remembered everything so clearly, like where we all sat in english. He said things like "my head is swirling", "things are all converging from different angles", "this makes my head explode".

He sent me 12 messages on facebook people, full of incoherent ramblings about things that never actually happened!!!!

I wasn't sure what to do. But I wrote him back and told him that my friend had let that stuff go and he should to. I also told him that maybe he should go talk to somebody professionally so he could get all this stuff off of his chest.

I didn't tell my friend immediately because I wasn't sure what to make of it all.

Come to find out, he had been emailing her too.

The next night he visited her house (she wasn't there thankfully!) and then he went to her neighbor's house looking for her.

She didn't give him her address, but did have pictures of her house on facebook.

We were pretty freaked out that night, but by the next morning we had all calmed down.

Until....he showed up at her work the next day!!!!

Thankfully, she had warned work and security had his info (minutes before he showed!)

Things were quiet for the next week and we thought it was over. She messaged him and told him not to come to her work or her house again and that she did not want to talk to him. We figured he had gotten the message.

Then he showed up in my neigborhood at my neighborhood garbage clean up (he does not live in my neighborhood! all we could figure is he saw on facebook that I was attending - I know I was so stupid!!!!)

Luckily I avoided him and I figured maybe he did just want to help. I actually felt kind of sorry for him. He asked the organizers if they knew where I was and told them that I invited him. I figured maybe he didn't understand facebook and thought I DID invite him.

Well, he showed up at my friend's house again sunday evening. He parked up the street and waited till they got home. He met her fiance in the driveway and was saying things that didn't make sense.

We weren't friends with this guy in highschool, merely an aquaintance. We think he has some sort of mental illness.

But we're still scared. We don't know what his intentions are and he knew he shouldn't have come to her house. He lied to the police when they arrived and told them that he hadn't been directly told not come there. He most definitely had been told by my friend and the security at her work!

He was given a ticket for trespassing, and my friend now has a restraining order.

******My warning for all of you: Don't post pictures of the front of your home or put your specific place of work on facebook. I know most of the information can be obtained on the internet, but don't make it so easy.

AND don't friend people on facebook you aren't currently friends with in real life!!!

I hope it's over and I don't have anything left to write on this topic!

  1. I hope it's over for you and your friend too. This is very scary with a high creep factor.

I know with some cameras now, the gps coordinates are included in the picture data. Always make sure to turn this feature off if you're taking pictures of your home, inside or out.

  6. Creeepy. Stalkers suck. I try to be pretty secretive about my stuff. Plus, I am a guy so I don't really worry about stalkers.

  8. I'm assuming that you've blocked him from facebook. It's probably a good time to check your security settings to make sure that no personal information is publicly visisble.

You may or may not know that I have a stalker of sorts of my own. Fortunately he lives on the other side of the Atlantic and can't make unexpected appearances - he tried to friend me on facebook a while back and I blocked him right away. He reads my blog - oh, well...there's nothing he can tell my family that they don't already know.

Isn't it ironic that those of us who are trying to come out into the open are held back by people that have no business interfering in our lives?
